Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Jagannath University (JnU) unit are conducting a 10-day awareness campaign to prevent dengue and curb the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.
Launched on 5 October, the campaign includes daily
awareness drives, leaflet distribution and cleanliness activities in different
areas, with volunteers reaching out to residents, pedestrians and students.
As part of the initiative, the volunteers have
conducted activities on the university campus and in surrounding areas, educational
institutions, markets and other public gathering places. The campaign has so
far covered Bahadur Shah Park, TSC, Banglabazar, Sadarghat, the launch
terminal, Keraniganj, Patuatuli, Raishaheb Bazar, Shankhari Bazar and
Laxmibazar, as well as Dhaka Metropolitan Women’s College, Dhaka Government
Muslim High School, the Jagannath University girls’ hall, Banglabazar School
and Pogose School.
Volunteers are informing pedestrians, shopkeepers,
students and guardians about ways to prevent dengue. Alongside distributing
leaflets, they are removing stagnant water from different places and
participating in cleanliness activities.
The campaign emphasises regularly removing standing
water from rooftops, flowerpots, drums, buckets and discarded containers.
Volunteers are also advising people to cover containers that may collect water
and keep their homes and surrounding areas clean.
They are also raising awareness about personal
protective measures to prevent mosquito bites.
